Website Development Case Study

How devvorld helped Fabricana grow online

Fabricana is a family-owned fabric store in Coquitlam, British Columbia, founded in 1970 by Richard Megrian. It offers a vast selection of quality fabrics at reasonable prices, including fashion fabrics, quilt craft, home décor, notions and special occasion. We built a Shopify store that brings that 50-plus-year reputation online and gives sewists, quilters and crafters across Canada and the US a place to shop with confidence.

The Challenge

The obstacles Fabricana needed to overcome

Fabric is a tactile, highly personal purchase, and shoppers choose by colour, pattern, weight, fibre and season, not just by product name. Fabricana's catalog is huge, spanning fabrics, foam, yarn, books, classes and thousands of notions. Customers also come from two countries and two languages, and many already love the in-store experience. The challenge was to keep the same warmth and expert service online while making a very deep catalog easy to browse.

The Solution

What we designed and built for Fabricana

We organized the store the way sewists actually shop. Shoppers can browse by department, fabric type, colour family, pattern family, fabric weight, season, fibre content and eco certifications such as OEKO-TEX, GOTS and organic. This turns a massive range into a guided, filterable experience. The store supports Canadian and US currencies and English and French versions, with free shipping over $75 CAD to encourage larger baskets. Sale and clearance collections, seasonal promotions and an "Everyday Discount" notions program keep the store active. In-store pickup links the online and physical experiences. An inspiration gallery, a project-based blog and customer reviews build community and trust.

The Result

What Fabricana has today

Fabricana now has an online store that feels like walking the aisles of a trusted local shop. Shoppers find the right fabric faster, and customers praise the quick delivery, careful packing and responsive service. The structure is ready for new product lines, such as the recent yarn launch, as well as seasonal campaigns and further growth across North America.
